VEX Robotics

Fairfax County's NCS VEX Robotics Team "Robo Squad" qualified and competed in the state VEX Robotics tournament in Doswell, Virginia. Coached and sponsored by PMMI they learned critical thinking, communications, organization and team management. Although the kids didn't make it to the finals they were undeterred saying "next year we are coming back to state, and we are going to crush it”.

PARTNER POSITIVE
“Patti helped gave practical, useful steps on Corporate Social Responsibility that all people in the room could use and follow. Her facilitation of the all-star CSR panel made the event that much better.  We appreciate OP3’s continued support as we drive the dialogue on the issues and needs of the future.
- Jim Corcoran, Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce

PARTNERSHIP PROFILE:
Hypothermia Partnership Saves Lives

As the temperatures continue to drop a collaborative of local nonprofits, faith based organizations and county employees step into action to keep our homeless citizens warm.

Fairfax County has six emergency shelters for individuals and families who are homeless. These shelters are operated by community nonprofit organizations under contract with the county. The shelters have additional capacity during winter months to take in people overnight who are at risk of hypothermia. Beyond the six shelters, a hypothermia prevention program operates throughout the county as faith communities open their doors during the winter to provide additional safe, warm space for homeless individuals at night.

McGuireWoods LLP made giving fun with a volunteer event at Frying Pan Park last September. Instead of a traditional company picnic, the law firm made the day a community "give back" by bringing nearly 60 volunteers to Frying Pan Park for community service.

The volunteers painted the fence near the blacksmith shop and the barn. Then they relaxed in the pavilions to admire their hard work and enjoy one another's company.

Thanks to McGuireWoods LLP for its volunteering and donation to the Fairfax County Park Foundation. McGuireWoods is a leading international law firm with more than 1,000 lawyers in 20 offices worldwide, including Tysons Corner and Washington, D.C. And a hat tip to Supervisor Hudgins office for making the connection.
