Farewell, Ingrid Parris-Hicklin

This month, OP3 will say goodbye to Ingrid Parris-Hicklin who, after 26 years with Fairfax County, is moving on to life's next adventure. Ingrid's energy, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit led to many ongoing successful partnerships including Computer Clubhouses, management of the community centers division, wellness and arts programs. She was honored many times with awards for outstanding public and community service, including the A. Heath Onthank Award 1999 - highest award given to a County Employee. Ingrid plans an active retirement, launching a public access show, Ingrid's World, and continuing her leadership in the Rotary Club of Tysons Corner.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Through a coalition of libraries, faith and community based groups, public agencies and business partners, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps low income individuals and families prepare their tax returns at no cost in sites around Northern Virginia.  Locally known as the Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (CASH), this annual campaign was launched in 2006 by the Office of Public Private Partnerships. Since 2009, the Fairfax County Department of Family Services has coordinated the NoVa CASH Coalition, which now includes 21 sites and public and private partners in five counties.Read More>>

Give & Get Involved Recognize Companies that Care! Training & Resources

Oral Health is the focus for this month's "Give and Get Involved". Did you know that Virginia is only one of 7 states where oral health care is not included in Medicaid? As a result, there is a large incidence of dental neglect amongst lower income workers that results in lost wages, more absenteeism and utilization of unlicensed dentists. However, there are options out there – they just need your support!

Get Involved: Volunteer with the Northern Virginia Dental Society's Mission of Mercy (MOM's). This two day event, March 9th and 10th, features more than 400 volunteer dentists, hygienists, nurses and other health professionals. The goal of MOM is to provide more than $300,000 dollars' worth of free treatment to 800 low-income uninsured adults. The program can also use non-dental volunteers as monitors, runners, and interpreters. The event is held at the Northern Virginia Community College Medical Education campus in Springfield. Volunteer today! Your participation will make many more smiles possible!

Visit the Northern Virginia Dental Society's page to find out more. Give: The Northern Virginia Dental Clinic (NVDC) and VOICE, a broad-based, multi-issue, multi-faith, non-partisan citizens' organization, seek funds to bring dental care to low income individuals in western Fairfax County. The equipment and facilities are currently available, however, the funds for a dentist are lacking. Having a full-time dentist in the Sterling location, which opened in late 2010, will result in more consistent treatment planning and greater continuity of care for all patients. It is estimated that this position would serve more than 1,500 appointments annually The cost for a dentist is $200,000. They are halfway there and are looking for support to make it to the goal line. VOICE leaders have been offered a $100,000 anonymous challenge grant, that when matched, will enable the hiring of a full time dentist. NVDC is hoping citizens will get them the rest of the way!

For more information on how to donate/volunteer visit the Northern Virginia Dental Society's web page.
