PARTNERSHIP PROFILE:
Introducing HealthWorks

As many as 144,000 individuals live in Fairfax County and lack health insurance. To expand health care to more patients, two nonprofit health care providers have boldly come together to join forces and maximize their impact in the community. After ten years of steady growth in providing comprehensive primary health care to low income and uninsured patients living in the Northwest part of the County, the Herndon-based Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic has become part of the Loudoun Community Health Center, which already provides care to 6,000 patients in Loudoun County. With this merger, and the growth to three health centers in two counties, the organization has a new name - HealthWorks for Northern Virginia

It's not taxing to help with taxes!

The Volunteers Income Tax Assistance program needs your help in getting the word out about their services. If you know an individual or family who worked in 2012 and made less than $51,000, they may qualify for help in preparing their federal taxes.

Organized by Fairfax County Department of Family Services, the NOVA CASH Coalition is dedicated to helping local families avoid the costly service most organizations charge to prepare and file taxes. With the help of dedicated IRS certified volunteers, low-income families throughout Northern Virginia received over $7 million in federal refunds last tax season.

Every tax season, hundreds of volunteers in the Northern Virginia area find great satisfaction in helping low income families file their federal and state tax returns.

You can help by spreading the word.

To find out more visit their website, download/share a flyer. Hours and locations can be found here.

Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) provides affordable loans, generous savings programs and friendly, personal service. Their stated mission is to be your lifetime financial partner. However, in Fairfax County they are much more than that. With the full support of NWFCU management and employees, Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation (NWFCU Foundation), the philanthropic arm of NWFCU, is a true partner to the Fairfax Community. They support Meals on Wheels with more than 27 employee volunteers every Monday, organize the Night of Magic Ball at Inova Fairfax Hospital for critically ill children, hold community wide blood, food, toy and coat drives and partner with FCPS and OP3 in our Collect for Kids backpack drive. In addition, they have donated more than $454,000 in Ben DeFelice scholarships for deserving students since 2005. In 2012, NWFCU Foundation granted $70,000 to organizations including Children's Miracle Network, Special Olympics Virginia and Best Buddies Virginia, taught financial education to more than 3,100 FCPS students and volunteered over 1,900 hours in the community.

NWFCU and NWFCU Foundation exemplify the spirit of the community-we salute them!
