Captain Willie Bailey Wins Public Service Award

Captain Willie Bailey, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, was honored by Leadership Fairfax with the 2014 Katherine Hanley Public Service Award which recognizes lifetime service to the community. Capt. Bailey, a LFI '12 graduate, was recognized at the LFI Board of Supervisors Breakfast in February for his service, not only to the fire department, but to the community. Spanning more than a decade, through his work with Fire Fighters and Friends to the Rescue he has supported thousands of underprivileged children, with his support for Collect for Kids, Childrens Toy and Coat drive, and free haircuts for kids. Congratulations and thanks to Capt. Bailey!

Champions of Character

The annual Champions of Character Awards, designed to coincide with National Character Counts month, hosted by Fairfax County Office of Neighborhood and Community Services and the Fairfax County Athletic Council (FCAC) pays tribute to local youth, coaches and parents for extraordinary service in pursuing victory with honor. The Champions of Character program aims to help restore the tradition of amateur athletic competition. The awards pay tribute to the outstanding youth and adults who have demonstrated extraordinary service in the sports community while modeling the basic traits of good character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
