OP3 NEWS:

OP3 to Host Japanese Officials

In late June, OP3 will host two different Japanese officials who are coming to learn about how Fairfax County promotes tourism, manages social media and recruits volunteers. Specifically, the first, representing the Toyko Metropolitan Government, is seeking ways to promote tourism in Tokyo via social media. He will spend a month in Fairfax shadowing County and local staff and learning how Northern Virginia promotes itself via its various social media channels. The second official is representing the 2020 Japanese Olympics, which will need nearly 90.000 volunteers to make the games successful. She will visit our volunteer coordinators and Volunteer Fairfax to learn how Fairfax County managed the World Police and Fire games volunteering.

Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. (CFI), producer of the award winning Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, does more than just put on a world class fair. They also give back to the community all year long! CFI uses fundraisers throughout the year and its 5K run to raise funds for the Celebrate Fairfax Community Spirit Scholarship Program. First awarded in 2012, ten Community Spirit Scholarships are given annually to Fairfax County graduating seniors who demonstrate excellence in community service, leadership, academics and extracurricular activities. The scholar winners are selected by the Board of the nonprofit Celebrate Fairfax, Inc., with one scholarship recipient from each of Fairfax County’s Magesterial Districts, as well as one at-large scholarship. Awardees were feted at the Celebrate Fairfax Celebrate Fairfax Festival Kickoff May 22. In addition to their award, each recipient receives a ticket to the Celebrate Fairfax Festivities.

Another community service CFI offers are the free workshops throughout the year on how to plan and execute successful events. These trainings are well attended by local nonprofits seeking to emulate the success of CFI events.

Big H/T to Celebrate Fairfax for not only putting on a great fair, but also for being a good community steward!
