Give back(packs)! Community Caring Resources & Training

Many school children in Fairfax County have little to eat on the weekends. A growing number of organizations have started providing "weekend backpacks" for these children each Friday. The weekend backpacks contain kid-friendly foods that are high in nutritional value. Beginning in September, schools will assist in the distribution of these bags. Donations and volunteers to fill these bags are needed! Interested in helping out? Here are a few of the organizations currently working towards feeding hungry children:

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department demonstrates their community caring both on duty and after hours. In the past month, in addition to fighting fires and responding to earthquake and hurricane related emergencies, firefighters teamed with community organizations on a backpack drive to provide school supplies to more than 2,000 children in need. Local barbers and WKYS 93.9 FM provided back to school haircuts for many of these children. Watch a video of Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department providing back to school haircuts.
