OP3 News - A Nod to 2014 and a Look toward 2015

2015 is here and we are very excited for the new year, but before we forge ahead, OP3 would like to H/T (hat tip) those of you who made 2014 a great year! Fairfax is a much better place because of you and your support.

Below are just a few notable partnerships convened in 2014– if any of these below inspire you, give us a call we'd be happy to tailor something to meet your needs!

Thank you to all named and unnamed partners and we look forward to working with you in 2015!

BeFriend A Child

The Fairfax County Department of Family Services BeFriend-A-Child mentoring program provides opportunities for companionship, guidance and support to children who are at risk of abuse and neglect or who have been abused and neglected.

Children from ages 5-12 are matched with volunteers who are trained to serve as mentors. In addition to spending one-on-one time together, the mentors and children participate in monthly educational and social group activities such as the holiday party, performing arts workshop, hayride, tour of the Washington Post, and community service projects.

Partner Positive

I would like to recognize the work of Karen Fuentes and Angie Carrera of your staff and be sure that you know how much the Office of Elections appreciates their contributions to what we do!

Reston Chamber Sponsors Ethics Day for Local HS Seniors
For more than 20 years, the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and its members have partnered with South Lakes High School providing a day of learning regarding ethical decisions. The long standing tradition begins by taking the entire senior class off-site to the Reston Sheraton that provides the venue. Students spend the entire day learning about ethical decision making and how it will affect their adult lives. Using a series of four different complex but real-life scenarios, students are asked to review, discuss and reach ethical decisions for each situation. Chamber members lead a small group of students through different circumstances to guide and encourage discussion.

The goal of Ethics Day is to provide a platform for students to discuss ethical situations young adults will face today and in the future.

Hats off to GRCC, the Sheraton, Reston Association, Reston Community Center and FCPS for their work in molding the minds of tomorrow!
